Founder of private tuition company Tutors International supports expansion of offender disclosure scheme across the UK
Adam Caller, founder and senior partner of Tutors International LLP, a leading global provider of full time private tutors has announced his support of the expansion of Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme across the UK. The disclosure scheme, more commonly known as "Sarah's Law", has undergone a successful trial in Cambridgeshire, Cleveland, Hampshire and Warwickshire and is to be rolled out across other counties over the autumn of 2010 and spring 2011.
"I'm delighted to lend my support to this scheme as I feel it will make it so much easier for parents and organisations that provide services to families to check whether someone is safe to work with their children," said Adam. "At Tutors International we undertake rigorous background checks for every private tutor we employ, and I know how complex and difficult that process can be. It's simply beyond the means of the majority of families, and so the expansion of this disclosure scheme can only be a positive step towards the empowerment of parents and the better protection of children."
A disclosure scheme already exists in America, known as "Megan's Law", although more information is disclosed such as pictures of the offenders and individuals are free to pass on information to others in their community. "I have taught in America and make frequent trips to visit American clients, and there have been no incidences of vigilantism, the fear of which delayed the introduction of the scheme in the UK," Adam commented. "Instead, communities are safer and parents are able to protect their children through knowledge rather than suspicion. Any change in the law that empowers parents in this way, and makes it easier for professional groups with regular child contact to obtain information that isn't always covered by an ECRB check is most welcome," Adam concluded.
